Studying Ancient History @ PVCCP
This honors level course is designed to prepare students for any college World History course. It will examine ancient civilizations from the Garden of Eden to the end of the Classical World (Fall of Rome). More specifically, it will examine the Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Hebrew, Babylonian, Greek and Roman ancient civilizations. Geography will also be a component of the curriculum throughout the semester (modern and ancient). Principles from general revelation, the biblical worldview, and biblical chronology will serve as the structure and interpretive framework throughout this class. In light of this interpretive framework, we will see how history is a purposeful and spiritually nurturing pursuit, because it deepens the revelation of God/the Good. The topics and themes will include the political, literary, social, economic, and religious trends that shaped ancient and subsequently modern civilizations. Students will learn through a combination of reading, lecture, discussion, debate, writing, and self-directed research. In addition, students who diligently apply themselves will grow in their ability to: examine challenges to the Christian worldview, reinforce their own worldview by drawing moral lessons from the providential hand of God in individual lives, and interpret primary sources in the areas of literature, philosophy, and history.
